The C 55 AMG from the W202 series is one of only 45 vehicles ever built. This is because the car was originally built as a C 43 and converted to a C 55 at AMG in Affalterbach for DM 68,208.00. This sum included a new engine, a new rear axle, a new exhaust system, bodywork modifications for the 18-inch tyres, new 18-inch wheels and the blue-stained Finnish birch wood. And not to forget, the top speed was increased to 280 km/h. For this extra cost, a C 280 with optional extras was also available at the time.
This C 55 AMG therefore had a new price of around 194,000.00 DM including 16% VAT.
It goes without saying that only 45 customers were willing to pay this.
